XBMC tv (free tv)  General Tutorial

XBMC MASHUP ALTERNATIVE / REPLACEMENT  -  ALL FREE TV  VIA XBMC

INTRO:

No doubt there are many advanced ways to set up the XBMC tv but this tutorial will be the basics of setting it up from scratch. If you know bits and pieces of the xbmc but would like to know a little more or perhaps you don't know anything about xbmc and would like to know more, then this information may help you.

If you're brand new to xbmc, it would be good to note here that XBMC is basically software which allows you to watch an almost countless amount of free tv and free movies and even live-tv-channels. It's my understanding that all this is legal since the software is designed by many different tech-genius-gurus who know how to "scrape" the internet for these television, movies and live-tv that is somehow already accessable to the public in some way. The xbmc software brings all the shows together in one place. To those familiar with "mashup" and are panicing that it's now gone, don't dispair as the below information will give you a good replacement or alternative with either the same or more programming offered by mashup. If you don't know what mashup was, it really doesn't matter :-) it won't affect anything for you.

Down To Business:

One preface before getting down to business is this shortcut: If you already have xbmc/kodi on a device already (or have a device to put xbmc / kodi on)  you can use this following, below , youtube video to skip all the manual addon setup and pay ten bucks to receive a backup file that you just simply "restore" into the kodi software and you have " presto- instant kodi":

(Bonus note: many time kodi will need updates along the way, fixes of sorts for some repos. One helpful website for repo fixes is:  http://www.xbmc-kodi-tv.com )

The manual setup:

First, of course, would be the download of the xbmc software. It is available for download for various platforms and devices such as your laptop, desktop, tablet, and so on. Platforms include Android, Windows, Mac, Apple, (I personally use a xbmc media box of sorts called a G-box which comes with a remote) , etc.. Here is a good place to download the setup file: http://kodi.tv/download/

Please be careful to select the appropiate install file based on the device to which you are installing it.

Once downloaded and installed the first important thing would be to install three website urls ( the "www. com's ") within the xbmc software which provide all the Television / Movie / Live-tv content you'll ever want or really need. These will be your tv-sources. Please understand that i'm trying to describe this in the most layman's terms I can think of to make it easy for anyone! Sorry to those who would explain this in a more technical jargon way.

Steps to follow to add the tv-sources needed to watch your shows:

On the main xbmc desktop screen go to system tab then file manager tab then add source tab. Where it says "none" type in the first url. It doesn't matter which order you add the four that i will give you. ( Perhaps sometime in the future you may need to change or update these url's too, as things change from time to time as things progress.)

Type in the following: http://fusion.xbmchub.com    ( revised alternate: http://fusion.tvaddons.ag )

Once this is typed in, then in the space where it says to "enter a name for this media source", type the word: fusion . (this can be called anything really but just as well name it what it is)

Now click the "ok" button and you're done with the first url-source for free tv.

This process will need to be done for each of the sources you use. In my tutorial I'm using three sources but it's possible to have more than these three. These three though, should keep you rolling in tv for many lifetimes to come! (You don't have to use all of the below url's but you certainly can.)

Type in the following: http://i.totalxbmc.tv

Once this is typed in, then in the space where it says to "enter a name for this media source", type the word: itotal . (this can be called anything really but just as well name it what it is)

Now click the "ok" button and you're done with the next url-source for free tv.

This process will need to be done for each of the sources you use. In my tutorial I'm using four or five different sources but it's possible to have more than these that I have listed here. These, though, should keep you rolling in tv for many lifetimes to come!

Now, as mentioned, it's time to do this process again, typing in the next url:

go to system/ file manager/ add source/ where it says "none" type in the first url. It doesn't matter which order you add the urls that i will give you. Perhaps sometime in the future you may need to change or update these url's too, as things change from time to time as things progress.

Type in the following: http://www.xfinity.xunitytalk.com

Once this is typed in, then in the space where it says to "enter a name for this media source", type the word: Xfinity . (this can be called anything really but just as well name it what it is)

Now click the "ok" button and you're done with the this url-source for free tv.

Type in the following: http://use.superrepo.org   ( revised alternate:  http://srp.nu )

Once this is typed in, then in the space where it says to "enter a name for this media source", type the word: Super . (this can be called anything really but just as well name it what it is)

Now click the "ok" button and you're done with the this url-source for free tv.

It's time to do this process again, typing in the next url:

go to system/ file manager/ add source/ where it says "none" type in the first url. It doesn't matter which order you add the urls that i will give you. Perhaps sometime in the future you may need to change or update these url's too, as things change from time to time as things progress.

Type in the following:  http://metalkettle.x10.bz/

Once this is typed in, then in the space where it says to "enter a name for this media source", type the word: MetalKettle . (this can be called anything really but just as well name it what it is)

Now click the "ok" button and you're done with this url-source for free tv.

Again, to repeat what I said earlier:

In my tutorial I'm using the above sources but it's possible to have more than these. These, though, should keep you rolling in tv for many lifetimes to come!

Installing these url-tv-sources:

To activate or install these tv-sources you need to first do the following:

Go back to the xbmc home screen (my screen is generally blue with a bubbly background).

Go to "system" and click "settings".

Once on this next screen click on "Add-ons".

Now on the next screen you need to click on "install from zip file".

Once you do this, you should see the three url tv sources you just added a few moments ago (fusion, xfinity and super repo)

Now its time to "activate" or "load" each tv-source:

Click on the first one: fusion (can do this in any order for the three you added)

Now click on the words "xbmc-repos". This displays a list of zip files called repositories and thus have the word repository in their name.

Note:

Many folk like to add only some of these by choice. I personally like to take the time to load each and every one. This gives me a vast supply of tv/movie/live-tv-streams choices in the end.

Click the first repository in the list.

( On my screen now , for example, the first one is called: repository.BlazeRepo-3.0zip )

Once clicked it will take you back to the screen where you will see "install from zip file" in the list. You will need to click those words (install from zip file) again and follow through again on the same pattern of clicking fusion again, clicking xbmc-repos again, and now clicking the next repository in the list (which in my case is repository.bunkford-1.1.zip).

This is menotenous to do as there are many repositories in the list. My list on my screen currently is showing twenty-five, in the fusion list. Again many people do not click on all of these and neither do you have to, but I do personally (with exception of the adult links which i do not want and do not click) , and find that by doing so I have a huge choice of options to watch in the end that many don't seem to have.

When you have clicked all of these repositories in the fusion list and are back on the list which show the words: " install from zip file" , you click again "install from zip file" and proceed to look for the words xfinity as you named it when you entered that tv-source. Because of starting with the letter "x" you will no doubt have to scroll to the bottom to find it. When you see it , click it.

Then click the folder that says "Repositories"

Then , once again you need to do as before when you clicked on each repository in the fusion list only this time for the xfinity list. It again is a menoteneous task but thankfully there are not as many in the list to click on each time. My screen shows seven repositories in the xfinity list.

When you have clicked all of the repositories in the xfinity list you again end up back at the list which includes the words: "install from zip file".

Click "install from zip file" and then look for the "super repo" list as you named it earlier. You may have named it "super" as i suggested at that time and that's what you look for in the list. When you find it, click it. Once clicking that folder you will see the different versions (labeled folders) displaying the names "frodo", "gotham" and "helix" (this Helix is the new version and runs under the Kodi name which is the name that replaces "xbmc") and /or possibly "Eden". My version is frodo so this is what I chose.

Note:

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE WHICH EVER VERSION YOU HAVE. If you're not sure you can check by going to your xbmc main start screen and click on "System / system info . Then on the next screen click "summary". The release number for xbmc is at bottom of that screen.

Version 13.0 means you have Gotham

Version 12.0 means you have Frodo

Version 11.0 means you have Eden

Now that you know which version you have, click the corresponding folder. Inside this folder are many more folders. Click the "all" folder and select each repository as you did for "fusion" and "xfinity". Reminder: after clicking each one, you have to come back to the same place and click the next one, and so on. There are only a few in this list so the menotony level is not as bad as previous.

Once this is done, you need to again come back into the super-repo list and scroll down to the folder that says "repositories". Click the zip file that you see in there too.

Wheuw Hoo! You have most of the work done! BUT there's a few more things to do:

Now go to the main xbmc desktop screen and go to "Videos".

Click "Add-ons" which is under the Videos tab.

Click the "Get More" link.

When you do this you should see tons and tons and tons of programming. These are your sources for what you will eventually watch.

You will need to "enable" each one you want to watch. There are WAY TOO MANY to enable all of these so pick and choose only the best ones you like... keeping in mind that you can "un-enable" any of these at any time as well....and likewise re-enable them as you please also. To enable the streams/sources you would like to view, simply click the stream/source in question and then choose "install", then wait while it downloads that stream. It does this by showing you a percentage next to it as it downloads it... When loaded it says "Enabled" next to it..... Then move on to the next one that you want to enable and do the same thing.... This also can be menotenous but it is how you get what you want to watch set up and it takes time.

If you're wondering which streams/apps could be the best ones, you may want to do a search to see what others recommend... I will give you an example of some of the ones I have selected for our viewing which we like to use: We have these (amongst others) enabled: 1Channel,

2Movies Evolved, Canada On Demand, Cartoon HD, Cartoon World, Movie25, Project Free TV, Cliq, Genesis, Ice Films, IsraeLive, and others for a total of about twenty-five or so, give or take , that we use (have enabled) personally.

Restart xbmc software now:

Now that you have your best and favorite stream-sources selected the next best thing to do is re-start your xbmc. If you're not sure how to do this: go to your main xbmc-desktop-screen. Down to the bottom left of your screen you should see the power icon which is next to a star icon. Click the power icon. You may get a little pop-up asking you to choose "exit". Select "exit" or "restart". Mine takes about 2 seconds to exit. Now start your xbmc software again if you didn't have the choice to "restart". It may take a min or so to load or it may load right away.

To check to make sure you have all your programming so you can start watching, verify by these steps:

Go to Videos

Click the tab under videos called "add-ons"

...and you should see all the stream sources you "enabled" a few minutes ago!

Click either of these streams to start watching. BUT know that in clicking any of these tv-stream-sources you will also have other options under each of these streams, giving you even more choices of things to watch..... it seems almost endless! KEEP IN MIND: not all streams work all the time but generally speaking many and most do. You will get a feel for which ones work on a more regular basis than others... Also each stream source comes with varying quality: some are great quality streams for viewing while others can be less of a viewing quality. When clicking on a stream to watch you are many times given multiple stream-sources to pick from..... One may work but the other may not. You will have to try different streams to find the one that works for you.... dont get frustrated, try several of them in sequence one at a time, as at least one usually works...

List your favorite channels as app type icons on the main screen for easy fast access:

Finally, for this layman's , hopefully non-complicated instructional, It's nice to have your favorite five tv-source-streams right on the xmbc-desktop main screen. I call these the Fav Five or Fab Five. It makes your favorites extremely easy and fast to access.

To make your favorite five tv-streams appear at the bottom of the xbmc main screen, go to the "System" tab , then settings tab, then click "Appearance", then click settings under that screen, then click Add-on Shortcuts, then, to the right you'll see "home page videos submenu". Under that select each "Add-on1, Add-on2, Add-on3, etc.. and by clicking these you'll be able to select the favorite source for each. Once each of these five are chosen, simply return to the main xbmc screen and if you don't see them right away just restart the xbmc software and they should show when you log back into the software.

Hope this helps,

... and enjoy the huge amount of programming available to you for free!
